Saint-Vith welcomes a unique energy innovation

The inauguration of the new gas station at Puratos in Saint-Vith marks an important milestone in the development of sustainable energy infrastructure in Belgium. This innovative project is the result of a collaboration between RESA, Puratos, and JOST, three organizations committed to delivering efficient and environmentally responsible solutions.

During the opening ceremony, Saint-Vith Mayor Werner Henkes highlighted the importance of this initiative for the region. Beyond its energy benefits, the project contributes to local economic development and showcases the expertise of the companies involved.

The virtual pipeline concept

Unlike traditional gas networks that rely on underground pipelines, this project is based on a "virtual pipeline" concept. The main station in Stavelot supplies the subsidiary station in Saint-Vith through the transport of specially designed gas containers.

This approach makes it possible to efficiently supply areas that are not directly connected to the conventional gas distribution network. It also offers greater flexibility for the development of future energy infrastructure.

A strategic partnership between RESA and JOST

RESA was looking for a logistics partner capable of meeting a highly demanding set of specifications. Following a rigorous tender process, JOST was selected thanks to its expertise in natural gas transportation and its experience operating LNG-powered vehicles.

According to Nicky Pirard, Director of Local Authorities at RESA and the driving force behind the project, JOST was the ideal partner. The company's investments in cleaner technologies and LNG transport provide a strong foundation for the project's success and future expansion.

A local project driven by sustainable values

This initiative holds special significance for JOST. With deep roots in the Saint-Vith region, the company is proud to contribute to a project that directly benefits its local community.

Beyond its regional impact, the project fits perfectly within JOST's environmental strategy. For many years, the company has invested heavily in modernizing its fleet to reduce its carbon footprint. This includes the deployment of next-generation LNG trucks, which reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 17% compared to conventional diesel vehicles.

JOST has also developed numerous sustainability initiatives, including the installation of solar panels and the promotion of eco-driving practices among its drivers.

Recognized commitment to sustainability

JOST's efforts to build a more sustainable transport network have been recognized on multiple occasions. The company has twice received the Green Truck Award, a distinction honoring organizations that demonstrate outstanding commitment to environmentally responsible transport.

JOST also holds an EcoVadis Silver rating, renewed in 2026, recognizing companies with strong environmental, social, and governance performance.

While the Saint-Vith project is a first for Belgium, the ambitions behind it extend far beyond the region. JOST and RESA aim to expand this model to other areas, helping deliver natural gas to households, businesses, and communities across Belgium.
